Bowling Club raises over £2,000 for charity

Thursday 09th August 2018

The John G. Fleming Bowling Club in Houston have hosted a series of fundraising events, raising an incredible £2,010 for St. Vincent’s Hospice.

Beginning on Sunday 8th July, the Bowling Club in Houston hosted their Annual Charity Day and Ladies Bowls Competition, raising more than £1,500 for the local charity.

64 ladies took part in the competition to support the charity, along with several contributions of raffle prizes, home baking and much more to make the day a huge success. The event was also generously sponsored by ARUN Rolla Snackbar, takeaway and catering company, all in raising £1,510. Following on from this success, the Club hosted an evening of cabaret, raising a further £500.

Event organisers event, John and Isabel Gilchrist from Houston, said: “We are delighted to announce that on the day we raised the magnificent sum of £1,510 at our Fundraising event on July 28th and that our cabaret evening brought our total for 2018 up to £2,010. We would like to say a big thank you to the 64 ladies who took part in the competition, and an even bigger thank you to everyone who generously donated raffle prizes, home baking, and to all of those that came out to support. As usual, all of our proceeds are going towards the very worthy cause of St. Vincent’s Hospice.”

Fundraiser Laura McDade from St. Vincent’s Hospice said: “We are so grateful to John and Isabel, along with everyone involved at John G. Fleming Bowling Club, for their ongoing, fantastic, fundraising efforts on behalf of St. Vincent’s.

“It costs more than £6,000 every single day to allow us to continue to deliver the care and support we do for so many people affected by life limiting illnesses throughout Renfrewshire. Over the last 30 years, we have helped lead the way in offering comprehensive care for anyone who needs it, whether in our In-patient Unit, Day Hospice or out in the community itself. Without events like this, it simply wouldn’t be possible to do this. On behalf of all of us at St. Vincent’s Hospice: thank you to everyone involved!”
