Bright Future for Local Charity

Thursday 01st August 2019

St. Vincent’s Hospice are looking to a “bright” future in their furniture shop, thanks to 24 new LED lights which have been installed in their basement store thanks to support from ENGIE. ENGIE are working throughout Renfrewshire completing refurbishment upgrades to numerous properties on behalf of Renfrewshire Council.

As a specialist provider of palliative care for the people of Renfrewshire who are affected by life-limiting conditions, St. Vincent’s Hospice is a charity at the heart of the community, tasked with generating nearly £1.5 million in donations and fundraising every single year.

A major part of this is their charity shops throughout the community, including one of their Furniture Stores, located in the basement of the Hospice itself. Thanks to this support, the store is now greener, cleaner and safer for staff, volunteers and customers.

Director of Income Generation at St. Vincent’s, Jackie Young, said: “Our furniture shops not only provide a vital source of income to allow us to continue to offer the support we do for thousands of people across Renfrewshire, but offer a valuable service for the local community. Allowing people to recycle their old furniture, we are able to resell these items at a low cost to ensure that they go to a good home for a good cause.

“Our basement is also a crucial part of day-to-day life in the Hospice, offering a space where repairs and testing can be carried out, store overstock from other shops, as well as supplies for our Inpatient unit and Fundraising events.”

Until now, the basement lighting has been quite expensive to run and was not ideal for a furniture shop, with the existing fittings being easily broken when furniture and equipment is being moved.

The new lights will not only mean that the area is now fit for purpose, but that it will save the Hospice a significant amount of money each year, to be reinvested in their services.

Jackie added: “This will make such a positive difference to our Hospice and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in this project for making it happen, as we continue to ensure we are ready to meet the future of palliative and Hospice care.”

ENGIE’s Regional Managing Director, Brian Pettigrew, commented: “This is a wonderful project to be involved with, and we are delighted to be able to provide new lighting for St. Vincent’s furniture shop – a vital part of the Renfrewshire community.

“Our thanks must go to Star Electrics for all their support with the installation process.”
