School kids rock their festive finest for St. Vincent's

Monday 11th December 2017

On Friday 8 December, local schools from Renfrewshire came together to wear their best Christmas jumpers to raise awareness and support for St. Vincent’s Hospice.

Vinnie, the St. Vincent’s Mascot, visited six schools around the community, spreading the Christmas spirit and collecting the incredibly generous donations off hundreds of pupils and staff to support the work of the Hospice.

Not only is St. Vincent’s a provider of specialist palliative care for individuals living with life limiting conditions, they also offer bereavement support for families, children and young people who have been affected by the loss of a loved one.

Donations were collected from Bridge of Weir, Arkleston, Our Lady of Peace, Howwood and St David’s Primary Schools. Vinnie also popped in for a visit to Mary Russell School’s Christmas fayre and Linwood Post office who were sporting their jumpers and hosting a raffle in aid of the Hospice.

Commenting on Christmas Jumper Day, Laura McDade, Fundraiser at St Vincent’s Hospice said: “It is fantastic to see such a great effort from so many people across the community, having a bit of fun and supporting all the work we do here at St. Vincent’s.

“Building these relationships and working with schools all across Renfrewshire is so important for everything we do here at St. Vincent’s. While our main objective is to offer care for our patients across the community, whether this is in our In-Patient Unit, Day Hospice or their own home, we are also one of the few organisations in Scotland who offer a specialist support for children and young people who have lost someone close to them.

“We can’t thank everyone who took part enough for all their generosity and wish them all a Merry Christmas when it comes.”
